The Mike Kite

The Mike Kite is Ellis Ericson pulling from the past hull design and pushing it to the future's outer limits. Built from a lifetime of surfing and a decade-long mentorship under George Greenough, this board fuses edgeboard theory, aggressive water manipulation, and deep concaves into something fast, strange, and highly intentional. Every curve, panel, and contour is there for a reason.

The hull is where the magic lives. A heavily contoured nose feeds into twin parabolic chine panels and a central concave running nose to tail. Those chines create a rolling “rail vee” passive and forgiving up front, then progressively more engaged as the board is put on the rail. The result is a flatter centerline for speed and trim, paired with an elevated rail line that comes alive in turns. You’re essentially riding a fast, flat board until you lean into it and it behaves like something far more rockered and reactive.

The area diamond tail keeps things balanced when the waves get hollow, fast, or unpredictable. Straighter lines through the outline give drive and projection, while the diamond lobes add a toe-side pivot point and extra surface area for the concaves and fins to breathe. It’s smooth rail-to-rail, loaded with intent, and built for surfers who want to feel exactly what the water’s doing beneath their feet.
